Chai, Fresh Outta the Oven

My family’s oven is still in a coma, and with less than a week until Christmas, I’m getting antsy!!

Christmas baking + cooking, ack! Something about the season feels lumpy and out of place without it – sweet peppermint cookies help the spirit to bloom!

I fought through the anxiety to a clear mind. Clear minds make plans. (Hopefully good plans!)

Our microwave’s little pizza oven. A slightly awkward, slightly uncertain “eureka” moment!

I decided that for the trial round, to make just a few Chai Spice Scones. I think this was my first time using a mix for baking – it did feel a little restrictive, since I usually play with recipes as I make them. (Probably not always a good habit!!)

Somehow…yay! (The mix was yummy, too!!)

My mom was surprised, hehe. : )

It’s calming to know I have something to untie all of this “no-baking” tension that’s twisted around me!! The scuzzy side is, though, that I can only make small batches at a time, and no cake, muffins, anything the rises too much or doesn’t fit. Cooking is awfully limited, and baking is left to mostly cookies + bars. That doesn’t mean I’m not grateful, though!! It’s an improvement, and I’ll appreciate it as that! : )

Since break started, I’ve also had time for doodling!

Here is a curly-haired, frantic-faced, “huzzah”-ing little boy. : )

Have a fun + happy day – look to the spirit of the holidays to keep your mood up!

Surprise Egg-ttack

….or, “spontaneous egg-splosion”. Or, “sneak egg-sault”. They’re all cheesy enough to apply, so pick your favourite! : )

That shocking story in a wee second!!

Lunch from yesterday –

Quarrel of quinoa, garden veggie tempeh, chayote squash, raw honey, hazelnuts, pumpkin seeds, lemon zest, and thyme!

This morning’s brekkie…

Today, lunch begun innocently. Well-intentioned!

Hummus resting peacefully upon a sweet ‘tater…

+a happy little persimmon.

But the eggs had a different idea in mind. A devilish plan.

I microwave-cooked them, as my tummy needed immediate fillage. While they were in the microwave, no explosions took place – really special for me! I took them out, commended myself on a clean job, but about ten seconds later…

…one of the yolks popped + exploded! It hurt a little bit – hot egg was not friendly with my arm – but otherwise, the surprise was the worst part! (Has anyone else had this happen? My mom said she’d never had it happen to her before; outside of the ‘wave!)

I poked at this topic yesterday, but I’m really starting to deepen into the idea…pursuing happiness in every little nook! I want to drift naturally toward the building blocks of my life that make me feel light + happy. I want to release stress and tension through every deep, invigorating breath. I want to respect myself – I want to live a life built off of confidence and joy!

I’m also becoming aware off how off-track I’ve skidded, in terms of ED recovery. Especially, because my weight yesterday was its lowest – ever! Saying I’m going to eat more, and that I’m going to stop compulsively obsessing over food, won’t heal me at all until I passionately pursue it. I need to repair my vision of food, and simply loosen my mind…just eat with less thought! Just allow my senses to focus on food, but keep my mind out of it! I’m beginning a new plan for myself, of eating six times per day – no feeling over-stuffed, which as a result, causes me to feel emotionally uncomfortable. Alongside that, incorporating calorie-dense foods (in significant, nonrestrictive portions!!) is a small goal that I know can help me. Really, an opportunity to use more peanut butter…how could I ever let it slip by?! : ) I just need to hold on tightly to my dream of feeling healthy + vibrant!

Aaaanndd, it’s only one week until Christmas – what excuse do I have to not be overjoyed?! : D

Swan-cakes!

Ugly duckling…

Beautiful swan!

I’m starting holiday break off well! I want to do what makes me happy….pancakes make me happy! : ) So, I invite in the pancakes!

I welcome you too, dainty apple + Nutcracker Sweet tea!

(I’m an absolute novice pancake-chef, though, so I used Nature’s Path buttermilk mix. Still amazing and yummy!)

I’m staying with my goal of positivity – starting, by enjoying the little positive things!

Enjoy the rest of your morning! For me, today is present shopping for my family. : ) Yoga first, then I’m ready to go!

Frohes Fest

“What is your favourite part about the holidays?”

Questioned Hayley’s history teacher, via Smart Board.

Hayley scrawled, “How light-hearted and airy life becomes. Tension hides away in the corner, at least for a couple of weeks!”

Still, she knew she had to tunnel deeper than that. Shovel every extra scrap of gravel away, weave through every artery, kick past all barriers blocking her inmost spirit, until Hayley’s fingertips could brush the response mounted in the bottom of her heart.

Ahah! Found it.

“Also, the heightened social acceptability of replacing meals with chocolate.”

Really, I promise, that was raw genunuity! : )

School today – the flashy neon bridge leading over to holiday break – was just what I thought it would be; smooth, and clear enough for ease of passage!

German holiday card – approriately meshed together during German class. An example of what we accomplished during school today! : )
The other blocks of the day weren’t very different…consumed whole by doodling! (Even if scribbling my wrist to near fracture wasn’t the task…for the circumstances that we were given a casual assignment!)

And, we wrapped up our week-of-poetry in language arts. (With a pretty Christmas bow!) Yesterday, we worked on limericks.

“There once was a girl with a dream,
To travel in a blue time machine.
A quirky Doctor to be her guide,
In a police box that’s much bigger on the inside,
Through the universe’s infinite scheme.”

Happy holidays! Melt into the spirit, let happiness bloom, and appreciate every generous essence of life! (Am I making it obvious that my goal for the next couple of weeks is to embrace positivity?! Try it!! I really, really believe everyone should – take full advantage of the already cheerful season and convert it into solid, positive energy!)

“Part of Santa’s Complete Breakfast”

A sketch I just barely, slightly started during school today! : )

Maybe the awkwardly missing second eye suggests that it’s a teeny bit too soon to share….?

Still, I’d just like to start talking more about what I’ve been drawing! Even if it’s only in little bits and pieces and scraps, like this.

Then, WIAW!! Again, a friendly get-together of what I’ve eaten the past few days. I cooked a huge-normous batch of brown rice on Sunday, so there’s a bit of a pattern!

Brown rice, avocado, mushrooms (very local – grown about thirty minutes away!), broccoli, SprouTofu + herbs & sea salt.

Siggi’s – just plain!

Brown rice, edamame, goat cheese, spring greenies, broccoli & carrots + lemon zest, s&p.

Peppermint + gingerbread oatmeal! 1/2 cup (dry) oats, with molasses, walnuts, ginger/cinnamon/cloves, crushed gingerbread candy-cane, kefir, and a banana.

…Best-Breakfast Award for this week. : ) Santa-approved, too!

Brown rice, sauteed tofu + veggies.

Romaine, out-of-season strawberries (ah!), olive oil, raw honey. Little and simple!

Casting for drama club’s multi-show show was released today! I’m going to be playing Rebecca Nurse in Crucible, and a little extra role in Titanic. : ) I did a search, and found out that Rebecca Nurse was a real woman, actually accused of witchcraft during the Salem witch trials! Should make for some super fun character research. : )

Have a beautiful Wednesday evening! (Mine will be spent prepping for three tests tomorrow – ahhh!)

Chocolate on Wheels

I want to talk about school! (Don’t run away…or fall asleep at your desk!)

What I do in gifted class is the same as what I do when I’m in my little blogging nook;

Reminisce in my devoted friendship with chocolate!

Image

“Chocolate on Wheels”…my group’s “business”. : ) We were sorted into groups based on “learning type”, every bundle of students containing a few people reflecting each type.

(Our learning types were also based off of Winnie the Pooh characters – I’m Eeyore, the quiet, artsy one!)

Each group has its own long-term project. We’re about two months into the mission. My group has to plan a business, on a $250,000 budget. The little details + expenses that keep coming up really make it clear why this is a long-term project! We’re a chocolate catering business, like Edible Arrangements, but fancy chocolate instead of fancy fruit! (Either way is fine with me, though : ) )

I love how my group has been handing me all the artistic jobs, though! I drew the logo (above!) over the weekend. I think I’ve found a comfortable place in this assignment! Can’t wait to see how it continues to build over the next couple of months….will we get extra credit in the end if we actually whip up some pretty chocolates? : ) If not, I hope we still do it, because I will eat them. All.

Language arts! We’ve been flowing lightly this week, welcoming mental relief before the holiday break. Poetry! I love the infinite oppritunities for self-expression available through poetry. (That’s true for any form of art, actually – but poetry almost feels like drawing combined with writing, which is fun, if that makes any sense!) Yesterday, my teacher gave us three photographs, and we had to buddy each with a haiku.

…One! Tropical fish, under-da-sea –

“Plasma blue streams in

Hugging sea creatures in light

Aquatic tye-dye”

…Two! New York City, during the night –

“Man-made mountain range

Screams in flourescent colour

Overwhelming noise”

…Three! Snow storm + snowy trees –

“Gentle crystal hills

Dusted in powdered sugar

Lofting in the trees”

I also wrote a second haiku for picture number three. I must have subconsciously known I hadn’t fully embraced my oddball-esque heart with the first three!!

“Chilling invasion

Anxious branches cower below

Someone save their souls!”

So, goodnight, and happy WIAW-eve! : )

Sweet little breakfast –

Another Ezekiel English muffin! Jelly + maple almond butter and chocolate hazelnut spread.

Chubby persimmon!

…I gathered a small bundle of holiday tidbits while grocery shopping with my mom!

December issue of Whole Living,

+two husky candy cane friends! Gingerbread and chocolate filled. : )

Drifting deeper into the gingerbread + chocolate theme….Theo gingerbread chocolate bar! Half the bar has already disappeared. The ginger is so strong and yummy! Probably my new very favorite bar. (For now – I’ve been trying to whoosh away my diet into wider variety….chocolate = included!!)

Auditions for drama club’s February show are tomorrow! (Shoo, anxious energy!!) The cast should be posted before the end of the week – line memorization + practice is left for our own responsibility, over the holiday break. (No school = no organized rehearsals! Ah!) The new play is called “Titanic, Trial, and Tragedy”. It’s a medley of scenes from three shows: Titanic (not the movie), The Crucible, and Romeo & Juliet. I would loovvvee to play Abigail (The Crubible)…roles that are driven so powerfully by the character’s physicality + emotion are super fun. : )

Today was woven with vinyasa flow yoga, homework, guitar….and Doctor Who! I’m happy that I could help myself by relaxing, while still not putting my mind into a slump over getting “nothing done”. It feels nice to have found a gentle balance!

Now, I’m going to decorate the tree!

Ginger-head
